Help our buildings at risk list get a refresh

We are working on a refresh of our unloved and heritage buildings at risk list and want your help in revising it.

The list is an attempt to build a register of buildings, locally, that we feel are important. They may be listed, empty, or suffering from neglect and visibly deteriorating. Sometimes they may just be familiar features of the area, from our earliest memories.

The now-closed Rose Hill United Reform Church does not currently appear on our buildings at risk list, but perhaps it should now be included.

The buildings were originally identified by us some time ago. Since that time progress has been made on some (we’ve noted this with *), but some others have continued to deteriorate.

You can read the full list with more information at the website page here, but the buildings are:

  • Victoria Buildings, Knifesmithgate
  • Hurst House, Abercrombie Street
  • Tapton House*
  • Former Primitive Methodist Church, Holywell Cross
  • Former Baptist Church, Brewery Street
  • Brampton Manor, Old Road (gazebo and cruck-framed barn)*
  • Dunston Hall (listed outbuildings including remains of cruck-framed structures)*
  • Kilblean House, Corporation Street
  • Former Water Board Offices, New Beetwell Street*
  • Former Congregational Chapel Schoolroom, Chatsworth Road
  • Walton Works, rear of Chatsworth Road
  • Cannon Mill, Goyt Side*
  • Wingerworth Hall, surviving south range (now known as Estate House)
  • St Andrew’s Church, Barrow Hill
  • Duckmanton Lodge, Calow (former Civil Service Club)
  • Former Cinema, High Street, Staveley
Since we last updated our list the condition of some buildings has improved, but unfortunately one that has not is St Andrews Church Barrow Hill, where its believed that the contents are being dispersed, following closure.

Is there anything we have missed? Should, for example the recently closed Rose Hill United Reform Church or the former Rural Council House/North East Derbyshire District Council original office building on Saltergate be included? Please let us know your thoughts.
